Who we are
Indira Social Welfare Organisation was started by a group of enthuasiastic young teenagers comprising mainly of girls in Dhenkanal district, Orissa, INDIA. A group of girls who had been attending tailoring classes in a skill training centre identified the need for some kind of skill training for women in their town and armed with their own newly acquired skill, set out start a centre in Dhenkanal town in 1985. The organisation was given a name in recognition of the widely recognised political leader Indira Gandhi and duly registered.
What we do
ISWO took up the mission of working for the economic and social empowerment of women and for all-round development of children in the district of Dhenkanal since last 30 years. We also take up awareness activities and training programmes which range from prevention of female foeticide, infanticide, child marriage, child sexual abuse, literacy, trafficking of women and children, violence against women, expansion of literacy, health, sanitation, caste, religion, income generation etc.
How we do
Besides our efficient staff we get help from many institutions to fulfill our dream such as OXFAM India, Bhubaneswar, CWS, Women Polytechnic- Govt. of India, NABARD for handholding. We also acknowledge the valuable contribution & guidance from the district administration, district police, agriculture and horticulture.We also work with a key network of organisations like Narishakti, NAWO, Task Force (Bhubaneswar), CLAP (Cuttack) & Civil Society of Dhenkanal.
