Ms. Puspanjali jena  is the Founder & Secretary  of Indira social Welfare Organisation has been working since 37 years as woman social activist in the district of Dhenkanal.

Born to a lower middle class family in a rural locality in west-central Odisha. She got a grooming with village children and pals at the village schools. Later when mother joined father at his work place She got a scope of exposure to semi-urban lifestyle .Her father being a police officer, She happened to know stories of anti-social activities, its negative impacts on the immediate and larger society. Though quite young to get a good grasp of the thing, it all created a sort of unrest in her. As natural as a child and as an informed/aware child, as a learner at school, She got into a mould of resolve to put her head & hand into eradication (or at least restricting) of social evil.

With co-learners and friends in secondary & higher secondary level, Her first-phase of involvement in social action was to attend community cleanliness drive(s) and in promoting literacy (among the illiterates in urban slums and sub-urban villages) in & around Dhenkanal town in the 1980s, and later in early 1990s when She was associated with her present banner“ Indira Social Welfare Organization – ISWO” She was confidently leading volunteers  in Total Literacy Campaign (TLC) and in Post Literacy Campaign (PLC) with the Zilla Sakshrata Samiti and solo.

With this They got groomed into a troupe of performers. Through various modes of public/Community Awareness like song, dance, street play, yatra and  jatha on development & welfare themes like Literacy, Local Environment, Sanitation, Small Family Norm, Female Foeticide, Women Empowerment, Domestic Violence Issue & Women’s rights, Anti Liquor Drive, Women Entrepreneurship  etc, They strode forward ; and it is still on.

With partnership, support & guidance from seniors and able agencies She could establish units like Women Support Center (For women in distress), Biswa Kuntala Children’s Home ( a care home of children in need ) ,Ekata Vahini(A Cultural Troupe) and Community Resource Center (for guidance skill training and hand holding in small enterprise for livelihood support).

Completing 58 in numerical age & survived from Cancer, She feels  strongly that She has many miles to go and to serve people.
